Police inspector, married couple charged with corruption

A police inspector and a married couple pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to bribery involving RM1,800 from a workshop worker two years ago.

Mohd Asri Shahadan, 33, who is the police officer, and the couple – police sergeant Abdul Aziz Mohamad, 39, and his wife, Umaiyah Saad,27— were jointly charged with accepting the bribe from Mohamad Azzamudden Khalid.

It was received through Abdul Aziz as an inducement for Mohd Asri to release a Modenas Dinamik motorcycle which was held by the police.

The offence was allegedly committed in front of Restoran Ali Baba here at 12.15 am on May 13, 2016.

They were charged under Section16 (a) (B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and faced an imprisonme­nt for up to 20 years and fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if found guilty.

Judge Nizam Zakaria allowed all three accused bail of RM8,000 in one surety each and also ordered them to surrender thier passports to the court.

The court set Oct 16 for mention.
