KOTA KINABALU: Some 43,565 primary six pupils in Sabah will be sitting for the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination which starts on September 20.

Sabah Education Department director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul disclosed that the first two subjects on the first day of the examination will be Chinese Language and Tamil Language.

“There are no pupils sitting for the Tamil Language paper but many will be sitting for the Chinese Language paper in the examination,” said Maimunah.

Maimunah was represented by the Assessment and Examination Sector head, Haji Bad Hamid Haji Musli, during the press conference held yesterday.

The examination for the other subjects, namely, Bahasa Melayu, English language, Mathematics and Science, will take place between September 24 and September 27.

There will be 1,089 examination centres in Sabah, while the number of personnel involved will be 6,152 people.

Out of the total students sitting for the examination, 37,914 are from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK), while 5,178 are from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) and the remainder are private candidates.

She informed that candidates from SK would be sitting for four subjects with six papers altogether, while those from SJKC would sit for five subjects consisting of eight papers.

Maimunah also informed that the department is working together with other relevant departments and agencies to meet any untoward incidences such as flooding, earthquakes and others during the course of the examination period.

She added that all district education offices have already activated their respective UPSR action room and said that they must be ready to face any eventualities.

Maimunah also warned schools to ensure that all their pupils sit for the examination.

She said that schools must not stop their pupils from sitting for the examination for any reasons whatsoever, including a bid to maintain their schools’ overall performance.

At the same time, she also urged parents to ensure that their children come prepared for the exams and to be early at the centres.
