Public forum on dementia at Gleneagles on Saturday
KOTA KINABALU: Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu (GKK) is collaborating with the Sabah Alzheimer’s Disease Support Association (AZ) to organize a public forum on Living with Dementia this Saturday, at the hospital premises.
“This public forum aims to raise public awareness regarding dementia, to provide support to the caregivers of patients with dementia and to provide an understanding about the current management of issues related to dementia,” said Dr Chris Chong, president of Sabah AZ and also the resident Neurologist at Gleneagles KK.
“Here at Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu, we are not only committed to providing a high quality of healthcare services, we also want to complement the work of local NGOs such as Sabah AZ that champion causes like these, by providing our support,” said Noel Cheah, chief executive officer.
The forum will feature three speakers. Professor Dr Shahrul Bahyah Kamaruzzaman will be talking about caring for the elderly with dementia. Datuk Irene Benggon-Charuruks will be sharing her story from the perspective of a caregiver and Datuk Hajah Mariati
Robert will talk about legal issues related to patients with dementia.
Members of the public, especially caregivers of persons with dementia, healthcare and social workers, and anyone interested to know more about dementia are invited to participate in this free event.
In addition to the talks, there will be a question and answer session and refreshments will be provided.
