Two brothers held over 23 P'pang break-ins

PENAMPANG: Police here believe they have solved at least 23 burglary and theft cases in Penampang district after apprehendi­ng two ‘Gang Emas’ members earlier this month.

Penampang police chief DSP Haris Ibrahim disclosed that about RM35,000 worth of jewellery were recovered from the siblings during their arrest on September 6 and September 7.

“The first arrest was made at Kampung Pogunon near Penampang around 8 am on September 6.

“Following the arrest, the 30year-old suspect then led police to the arrest of his brother, age 35, at Buhavan Square at around 11.30 am the following day.

“Police investigat­ion has found that both suspects were involved in 23 housebreak­ing cases around Penampang and Putatan with losses amounting to RM347,000,” he told the press conference.

Haris added that investigat­ion also revealed that the suspects have been active since October 2017.

Among the items recovered were gold rings, gold necklaces, pendants, cellphones, camera, electronic items and tools that were used by the suspects.

The suspects’ modus operandi was to break into the village houses while its occupants were out working during the day.

Both have been remanded for further investigat­ion under Section 457 and Section 448 of the Penal Code.
