Anwar pokes fun at media over silence in presence of Azmin, Rafizi
PETALING JAYA: PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday poked fun at the media over their silence in the presence of both Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli who are both vying for the deputy president post in this year's PKR elections.
Mohamed Azmin, the incumbent, and Rafizi turned up for a joint press conference at PKR headquarters here yesterday which was held to officially announce Anwar's candidacy in the Port Dickson parliamentary by-election.
The PKR president-elect in jest asked the media why they were not asking questions about Mohamed Azmin and Rafizi.
"Why are you not asking questions about Azmin and Rafizi today (Friday)? When they are not seated together, I was asked about questions about them every day, even when I was in Singapore yesterday (Thursday).”
"You all don't like to see them both in good terms, isn't it? Only want to see them fighting," he said drawing laughter from the media personnel present.
Also present at the press conference were out going PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and several PKR MPs.
The contest between Mohamed Azmin and Rafizi for the party's number two post has triggered much speculation about their relationship and fueled rumours of camps forming around them.
Anwar had earlier stated that he did not favour either Mohamed Azmin or Rafizi camps.
The PKR elections will be held in stages from today until Oct 28, to elect the deputy president, vice-presidents, Youth chief, Wanita chief, members of the central leadership council and division chiefs. - Bernama
