According to the JCI Tanjung Aru president Chang Jen Nee the aim of the event was to raise awareness for shark conservation particularly among the children, youth and families.
“We hope that through this carnival, along with the colouring competition, the younger generation will stop consuming shark fin soup.
“We are aiming to have at least 1,000 participants to join us for this inaugural Shark Carnival in order to raise public awareness on shark conservation. We will kick off with a Shark run and also the prize giving ceremony for the coloring competition. We hope many will come and join us to understand better the need of shark conservation and to ultimately stop having shark fin soups,” she said.
