Try direct sales, youths urged

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah youths account for 13.5% of the national unemployment statistics.

For this reason, young people, especially those fresh graduates who have just stepped into society, should find a decent job with a down-to-earth certification, said LDP Central Youth Movement Committee member Sim Fui.

He said that taking the statistics as an example, this is a very serious social problem. The population of Sabah is about three million, and 13.5% is about 400,000.

In this regard, he encouraged the younger generation to dare to ‘start with nothing’, especially fresh graduates who have just entered into the real working society.

He also advised them not to commit to any unnecessary loans without a good purpose.

Fresh graduates should look for jobs with flexible working hours, he said. They may wish to engage in self finance independent jobs such as direct sales, property negotiators and insurance agents.

Sim said many young people nowadays always want to work freely, earn money, invest and travel all around the world.

He suggested young people try to take up sales, insurance agents, unit trust consultants, property agents, seminar gurus, mobile App Stores, e-business and other industries as it will create greater financial freedom opportunities.

He stressed that the most important point is to avoid getting committed in bad debt problems.

In view of this, he urged fresh graduates not to let loans tie them down, especially credit cards and hire purchase loans which increase financial burden among youths.

“The current mode of work is mainly based on the Internet and diversified operations. Don’t lock yourself in a framework and try to operate in a diversified mode. It is most important to know how to adapt,” said Sim.

At the same time, he also reminded fresh graduates to master languages such as English and Mandarin.

With the rapid change in the information age and electronic services, the government should also cooperate with the trend to provide more courses such as mobile phone apps design course.

“I hope that young people will dare to face the challenge. Fresh graduates should think outside the box and give themselves the opportunity to challenge various industries, instead of limiting themselves to a specific framework. Only in this way can we effectively reduce the unemployment rate,” he said.
