KOTA KINABALU: Media Mix Team (MMT) Junior suffered yet another final heartbreak as Astam SS of Indonesia emerged champions in the Malaysia Borneo Football Cup under-11 competition yesterday.
Played at the Likas Stadium, MMT Junior were hoping to better their runner-up finish last year but Astam had other ideas in the Gold final.
Astam led 1-0 in the first half and despite a gallant fight from MMT Junior to find the equaliser, it was the Indonesian junior footballers who succeeded in finding the net in the second period to cement victory.
For the record, MMT Junior lost 1-2 to Dreaming Football of the Philippines in the same age group of the tournament last year.
In third and fourth placings of the Gold category, FC Kuala Lumpur defeated St. George City of Australia 3-2.
As for the Silver division final, JP Voltes of the Philippines won 2-0 against TABS Manggatal while third placing went toClaret School of the Philippines with a 6-1 win over Malaysian team Burnmark United.
Former Australian national team footballer and Pahang foreign import Alan Davidson presented the prizes to the winners.
Sabah's former Aussie striker Scott Olleranshaw of the Borneo Sports and Adventure Holidays which organised the junior development tournament was also present.
Meanwhile, the under12 category of the Borneo Football Cup got underway at the Penampang Stadium yesterday.
Team SBAI of Indonesia led with maximum points after the first two round of matches, beating Northern Inland 6-0 and MMT Junior 7-0.
Dreaming Football, the under- 11 champions last year, are second on four points after a 3-0 win over Tun Putra before being held 1-1 by Northern Inland.
MMT Junior are third on three points courtesy of their 2-1 win over SK Malawa while the other match saw the latter being held 4-4 by Tunku Putra.
