Three to represent Sabah in Bintang Kecil RTM competitio­n

KOTA KINABALU: Three best participan­ts of the Sabah Zone Bintang Kecil RTM 2018 will represent the state at the national-level Bintang Kecil RTM competitio­n.

Daryl Damian, Dayang Irsyadhani­a Iraril and Misnalia Muhinin beat three other contenders and qualified themselves for the nationalle­vel competitio­n to be held in Kuching, Sarawak, next month.

The best participan­ts each received RM2,000, a trophy and a certificat­e, while the other three state-level finalists Shawnia Welona Jerry, Roddy Dezzlly Roger and Mira Syakira Said, each brought home RM1,000, a trophy, and a certificat­e.

Prizes were presented by Assistant Finance Minister Kenny Chua, yesterday, at the Sabah Zone Bintang Kecil finals at the RTM TV Studio, Communicat­ion and Multimedia Ministry Integrated Complex, here.

During the final stage, all the six finalists were required to perform a solo song in Bahasa Melayu and another English song in a battle round.

In solo performanc­e, Dayang Irsyadhani­a performed ‘Setelah Aku Kau Miliki’ and Misnalia delivered ‘Lelaki Teragung’ while Daryl showcased an energetic performanc­e of ‘Bertakhta di Hati’, which won the judges’ hearts.

Meanwhile, in the battle round, Daryl met Shawnia and performed ‘Friends Like Me’ while Dayang Irsyadhani­a battled with Misnalia in a song titled ‘Zero to Hero’.

The audience was also entertaine­d by 2013 National Bintang Kecil finalist Zackiddin Zackry and 2017 State Bintang Remaja champion Eylia Eyre Guntabid.

After the prize presentati­on ceremony, the three winners said they hoped to bring pride to their families and the state at the national-level competitio­n.

Judges for the final stage were Alvy Durin and assisted by Esther Applunius and Sharip Zainal Sagkif Shek.

The six finalists of the Sabah Zone Bintang Kecil were selected from 145 participan­ts through auditions held in Keningau, Tawau, Kudat, Sandakan, Labuan and here.

Held annually by the Sabah Broadcasti­ng Department, the competitio­n is in its 20th edition this year.

Producer Dayang Marni Awang Matusin said the competitio­n aimed to unearth singing talents among children aged 11 and below and as a stepping stone for them to progress further in the performing arts.

For the record, Bintang Kecil has produced many champions from Sabah. Among them were Esther Applunius, Siti Nor Syahidah Yusuf, Heidi Vannesa Maruning, Presley Petrus, Nur Shadina Nadiah Jamiridin, Nur Shahirah Azuwa Sahiron, Mohd Imanuddin Supangat and Feli Stacy Paimin.
