Initiate reforms to ignite innovative ideas, CM urges govt agencies

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has urged government agencies to initiate reforms from time to time.

Shafie said state government agencies should use platforms like the statutory bodies and government-linked companies (GLCs) exhibition here yesterday to ignite innovative ideas within the organizations.

“We all certainly want to see reforms done by government agencies from time to time. The agencies involved should also be concerned and evaluate any comments and views from visitors (at the exhibition). This is important for improvement purposes,” said Shafie, whose speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister Christina Liew, when officiating at the ceremony of the event at Suria Sabah Shopping Mall here yesterday.

“The exhibition also provides opportunities for local and foreign investors to see potential government agency's products and this can lead to the possibility of establishing joint ventures,” he said.

“The participation of Statutory Bodies and State Government Agencies in the exhibition program has increased and attracted more visitors than in previous years,” he added.

The Chief Minister said the event generated a lot of value-added benefits that can be achieved or highlighted in conjunction with the Exposure of Statutory Bodies and State Government Agencies.

He called on government agencies to try and establish memorandum of agreements or business agreements with local and foreign companies during the exhibition.

“The success of the exhibition this year is a challenge to state government agencies to make the exhibition better in the future,” said the Chief Minister.

“Therefore, state government agencies have to formulate the next approach and direction so that the exhibition will not only stay relevant, but will also be able to offer new services and products to visitors and attract the attention of local and foreign investors,” he added.

Assistant Finance Minister II Kenny Chua and Finance Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Pengiran Hassanel Datuk Pengiran Mohd Tahir were also at the event.
