Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day celebration joy
TAWAU: The Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day Celebration attracted 300,000 visitors and booths managed to sell RM400,000 worth of agricultural goods and food during the three-day celebration at the Tawau Municipal Council field.
Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Junz Wong said the event received tremendous response and the ministry would look into organizing such an event as there were requests for it to be made a yearly event.
He said since the celebration started on September 28 till yesterday, a lot of information were obtained on business opportunities available in the agriculture sector.
The success was encouraging and showed the future and potential of the state’s agriculture sector, he said when closing the celebration yesterday.
He said this can be seen from the commitment of all those who were involved to prepare various types of exhibition booths and current information on agriculture technology, breeders and fisheries. The response from the people was positive creating wider encouragement and awareness that the agriculture industry can be beneficial and capable of giving good returns which is in line with government efforts to make agriculture one of the government economic developments.
He said it is the government’s aspiration to ensure the sector will continue to be competitive and sustainable to elevate the living standards of farmers, breeders and fishermen including making agricultural products competitive in the world market.
Junz said he hopes the celebration in Tawau had benefited all potential pioneers and elevated knowledge on innovation and technology in farming, breeding and fisheries.
Also present during the closing ceremony were the ministry’s assistant minister Dr Daud Yusof, Tawau Municipal Council president Alijus Sipil, the ministry’s permanent secretary Mariana Tinggal, the ministry’s deputy permanent secretary K. Zulkifli Harrith and Pertubuhan Peladang Sabah chairman Datuk Nazri Abdullah.
