Sabah to celebrate Doctors’ Day with free health screening
KOTA KINABALU: Doctors’ Day is celebrated in Malaysia on October 10 every year.
The date was chosen by the Federation of Private Medical Practitioners’ Association of Malaysia (FPMPAM) and first celebrated in 2014 by the association.
In Sabah, it has been promoted and celebrated by the Association of Private Practitioners Sabah (APPS), which is affiliated under FPMPAM, since 2016.
The date was chosen to signify precision – ten out of ten.
Doctors are expected to give their best each and every time they see a patient. It is the professional duty that they owe to the patients.
Doctors’ Day is celebrated in Sabah this year by APPS, by way of providing free medical screening and consultation to the public.
For practical reason, the event will be held on October 7 (instead of October 10) at Grand Merdeka Mall, Bandar Sierra, Kota Kinabalu from 10am until 5pm.
The health carnival is organized by APPS and participated by various other health NGOs such as Cancer Volunteers Association (PSKS), Sabah Thalassaemia Association, Pink Ribbon, National Stroke Association, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Blood Bank and others. Other than providing health screening and consultation, blood donation drive will be conducted as well.
Other NGOs will be also displaying their association roles and functions to the public to increase awareness of the availability of their services.
Free health screening includes blood pressure measurement, blood sugar measurement and Body Mass Index calculation.
All these health parameters are important in determining if a person may be having increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, which is the leading cause of death in Malaysia at the moment.
Two doctors will be on standby, to provide free consultation during the whole event.
However, there will be no examination being conducted and no treatment given during the event due to privacy and legality.
The event is open to public and as the main organizer, APPS certainly hopes that it will be taken advantage of by the community in the vicinity and beyond.
