-

SIBU: Two Border Regiment battalions under the 31st Infantry Brigade may be shifted to Sabah as part of a new brigade to be formed in the state to uphold the nation’s border.

Commander of Eastern Field Command Lt General Datuk Stephen Mundaw said in light of the possible movement of the two battalions, Sarawak will have three battalions remaining.

“There is the proposal to form one brigade in Sabah. With that, we will have one brigade in Sarawak and another one in Sabah.

“Apart from that, there are plans to further upgrade and increase the 31st Infantry Brigade Border Regiment in terms of strength and assets, while training will also be updated.

“That is the direction of 31st Infantry Brigade,” he said during a visit to Border Regiment personnel at Junaco Park National Service Training Camp here yesterday.

Among those present during the visit were 31st Infantry Brigade commander Brigadier General Datuk Fadzil Tajudin, commanding officers of Border Regiment battalions 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, and camp CEO Khiu Siong Hii.

Mundaw, meanwhile, described Border Regiment personnel as “very important men” as they are the army’s frontliners along the country’s borders.

He also advised personnel to continuously seek to upgrade themselves in terms of skills and knowledge.
