Chin, Lim win top two LDP posts unconteste­d

KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) acting president Datuk Chin Su Phin has been elected as party president without contest for the term 2018 to 2020.

Incumbent vice president Datuk Lim Ming Hoo was also elected unconteste­d as the new deputy president.

In a statement released yesterday, LDP Election Committee chairman Senator Datuk Yong Wui Chung said the nomination for the party election was closed on September 25.

“A total of 119 candidates are vying for the party’s 61 central leadership posts, including the president, deputy president, vice presidents, Supreme Council positions as well as all posts in the Central Youth Movement and Central Women Movement,” said Yong, who is also the party’s secretary-general.

He said both Chin and Lim were elected as the new president and deputy president without contest.

Additional­ly, he said Sim Fui and Lam Jin Dak were also elected unconteste­d as the leader and deputy leader of the Central Youth Movement respective­ly, whereas Wong Kuen Yin was elected to lead the Central Women Movement.

On the other hand, Yong said eight candidates would be vying for the five vice president posts whereas 40 candidates were contesting the 20 Supreme Council posts.

Meanwhile, nine candidates are contesting the three assistant leader posts and 27 candidates are eyeing the 12 committee member posts in the Central Youth Movement.

As for the Central Women Movement, Goh Soo Yee and Chung Shak Mee are competing for the deputy leader position, four candidates are vying for the three assistant leaders posts and 24 candidates are contesting for the 12 committee member posts.

Yong urged the delegates to attend the LDP Congress cum Election in their party uniform at SM Kian Kok school hall on October 21.

“The delegates must also present their MyKads for registrati­on and the party election.”

He also reminded the party’s delegates and members to attend the dinner at Putera Theatre Ballroom on October 20 where he would explain the rules and regulation­s for the party election.
