KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI), Sabah Branch has called for improvement to be made in many aspects, including the reduction of cost of doing business in the State.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Wong Khen Tau said such improvements were vital to encourage competition in a conducive environment in order to attract more investments in the State.

He made the proposition during a courtesy call by a delegation from MICCI, Sabah branch on the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal at the latter's office here yesterday.

Wong said the purpose of the courtesy meeting was to explain to the newly appointed Chief Minister the role of MICCI in assisting the State Government in efforts to advance the industry and services sector in Sabah.

He reckoned that Sabah needs to have a good future plan so that the State is comparable to the states in the Peninsular Malaysia.

“It (improvements) should be emphasized, otherwise we will still talk about the same thing and reamin lagging behind the rest of the nation,” said Wong.

He hoped other aspects such as human resource development, infrastructure and the public service delivery systems would be more efficiently emphasized in the future.

“The MICCI always wants to work closely with the State Government, especially the Sabah International Expo next year,” he added.
