Statement on Liew misspending money baseless, says ex-LDP leader

KOTA KINABALU: Former Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Karamunting division Women chief Wong Tze Fun said the statement made by LDP supreme council member Nancy Lim against the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law) Datuk Liew Vui Keong, over claims of misspending the party's money in 2013 was baseless.

In fact, Wong said, Liew and former LDP executive secretary, Phillip Tsen, had made themselves clear in their previous statements.

Wong, who is also a former member of the LDP Central Women's Committee, said Lim did not need to distort the facts.

“As Liew had mentioned, he has brought up this issue to the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in July this year and subsequently to the officers of the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) on the matter.

“Whatever that was done by LDP since then had nothing to do with Liew, nor does he needs to explain anything to anyone in LDP,” she said in a statement yesterday.

According to her, LDP has become irrelevant in the state's political arena due to its major losses in the last election.

'The party had been rejected by the people, and they should now focus on regaining support from the people instead of taking up personal grievances,” she said.

Wong said the people have lost their confidence in the party and everyone knows that this issue was brought up now purposely to shed bad light on Liew who was once their leader and friend.

“When Liew led the party to 100% victory in 2008, everyone in LDP was very supportive of him and saying all the nice things. But as soon as Liew failed to retain his own seat and that of Likas seat in 2013, they quickly abandoned him. In 2013, it wasn't a total loss for LDP as it won 75% of the seats it contested,” she said. Wong said LDP's existing leadership should reflect as to why they got zero seats in the recently concluded 14th general election.

“They should sit down and plan their future course. If they're not careful, LDP will be destroyed under Chin's destructive and confrontational politics. I have been in LDP long enough to know of his capabilities and backgrounds like many do,” she said.
