KK Advanced Toastmasters Club holds installation dinner
KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Advanced Toastmasters Club held its 18th installation dinner, themed International Night, on September 30.
The event, graced by Assistant Minister of Education and Innovation Jenifer Lasimbang and attended by some 100 members and guests, saw the installation, by Division K director Sylma Jepin, of the club’s executive committee 2018-2019 led by their new president Ahmad Dhiyauddeen Abdul Shukor.
The other members of the executive committee are immediate past president Syed Nabil Syed Abdul Nasir, vice president education Ahmad Najib Ahmad Afandi, vice president membership Harbiah Arman, vice president public relations Adina Affendy, secretary Ibranik Iskandarian Peter, treasurer Chua Hong Cheong, sergeant at arms Norhidayu Soon and committee member Wong Li Vun.
In her speech, Jenifer talked about her being encouraged by activities that promote education, English and communication.
She looks forward to collaborating with the club and other Toastmasters to promote communication and leadership skills as well as the use of the English language in the community.
Meanwhile, Syed Nabil declared that the club achieved the coveted President’s Distinguished Club Award with a perfect score of 10 out of 10 goals while president Ahmad Dhiyaudddeen expounded on the presidential theme for the term – Attend, Deliver, Succeed.
Syed Nabil also presented tokens of appreciation to his executive committee 2017-2018, and educational awards to the deserving recipients, namely Jess Vun, Sylma Jepin, Adelina Adna Adenan and himself.
Special awards were presented to senior members of the club, including Richard A. Gontusan, Fatimah Yassin and Abu Bakar Sheriff, for their continuous contributions, in deeds and words, towards club growth and excellence. Jess Vun was named Toastmaster of the Year 20172018.
In keeping with the theme of the evening, an international fashion contest was held. Lucky draws added excitement to the evening which was capped by a jazz presentation by performers from the Sabah Institute of Arts.
