KOTA KINABALU: The new Kota Kinabalu police headquarters building project is ahead of schedule and is set for completion by mid-2019.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman said this following a working visit to the headquarters of the Sabah Police Contingent here yesterday, shortly before visiting the site for the new headquarters.

“According to information, the new headquarters building is about two per cent ahead of schedule. In addition to that, we are also looking at other facilities such as detention centres which need upgrading or maintenance work.

“A few other places have also been briefed such as Beluran and the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), including the police station at Bum Bum Island,” he said.

Azis, who is also Sepanggar member of parliament, added the ministry would have to go to the ground to adequately assess the situation there, not only in Sabah but in other states as well.

Earlier, he said the briefing at the Kepayan headquarters was not only on safety but also development planning for the short and long term.

It included restoration works for police stations and police quarters, as well as welfare of officers and logistics.

Also present was State Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah.
