Judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid handed down the sentence on Rahman, 34, or fondly known as ‘Bob Pisau', a homeless man, after he changed his plea to guilty on the first day of his trial.

He was charged with robbing Nikmat Mahat, 60, of a mobile phone at the back route of Persiaran Daya Bumi, Off Jalan Tun Sambathan here at 5pm on July 3.

The charge, under Section 392 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of 14 years and liable to a fine and whipping, upon conviction.

Bob Pisau was also sentenced to six months' jail after he pleaded guilty to failing to present his identification card during a police inspection near Sungai Klang, Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin here at 6pm on the same day.

The charge under Rule 25(1)(n) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 carries a jail term of up to three years or a maximum fine of RM20,000 or both, if convicted. The court ordered him to serve the sentences concurrently from the date of his arrest on July 3.

In mitigation, Bob Pisau who was unrepresented pleaded for leniency, while deputy public prosecutor Siti Aisyah Ahmad urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence as a lesson to the accused.

According to the facts of the case, the accused had approached the victim, who was charging his mobile phone and hit the victim's head to ask for money.

The victim told the accused that he had no money causing the latter to snatch his mobile phone before fleeing.
