Full line-up of MA63 committee to be tabled

KUCHING: The list of the full line-up of the special cabinet committee formed to carry out a review and to coordinate the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) will be tabled for endorsement at the cabinet meeting this week, according to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong.

He said the memorandum on the Committee had also been sent to the relevant ministries.

“I’m happy that everything is in place and will finally be tabled to the Cabinet this week.

“We don’t really have to go and look into historical things because there are many common issues that have been agreed upon by us and I think we will look straight into the implementation of the MA63,” he told reporters after visiting the Kuching Court Complex in Petra Jaya near here.

Meanwhile, the Mobile Court here will soon receive four units of four-wheel drive vehicles to enable it to perform its duties throughout Sarawak.

Liew, who is also Batu Sapi Member of Parliament, said allocation for the vehicles had been approved following requests by the Kuching High Court.

“Sarawak is a very big place and the road structure is not so good. At this moment, I have approved the requests by the court (Kuching High Court) to have additional four vehicles for them to do their Mobile Court, to cover the whole of Sarawak,” said Liew, who last visited the Kuching High Court in 2008.

On his visit to the court, he said he was very impressed with the Kuching Court Complex, with its system working very well.

“Especially on the emahkhamah with its modern technology, having this system (e-mahkhamah) there is so much costs that we can save, for example, video conferencing with other judges in other divisions like Sibu and Miri, so not necessary for them to come here.

“I was made to understand that this court does not have much backlog cases...this is a fantastic achievement for Kuching, so litigants do not have to wait for a long time to have their cases heard and for the judges to deliver their judgement,” he said.

He made these remarks after visiting some of the departments, chambers and courts at the Kuching High Court, where he was received by the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Datuk Seri Panglima David Wong Dak Wah; Kuching High Court judges Supang Lian, Ravinthran N. Paramaguru and Azhari Kamal Ramli; Federal Secretary Datuk Mansor Man and Registrar of the Sabah and Sarawak High Courts, Amelati Parnell.

Liew was accompanied by Head of Registrar Office Federation of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Latifah Mohd Tahar; and head of Law Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office, Datuk Jalil Marzuki.

Among the offices and courts that he visited were Kiosk Care Screen at the lobby, courts for Sexual Offences Against Children, consultation rooms and others.

He was also given a demonstration on the usage of Voltex System and Stenographer to record proceedings in all the courts.
