Local gets six years’ jail, one lash for drug abuse
TAWAU: A 39-year-old local man was sentenced to six years’ jail and one stroke of the cane by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for drug abuse.
Magistrate Herlina Muse meted out the sentence on Rlanzee @ Rolanzey bin Rose @ Roslan to charge under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 Penal Code which provides for an imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than seven years, and whipping of not more than three strokes upon conviction.
The accused who was detained for screening during Ops Tapis tested positive for methamphetamine abuse on July 11, at about 12.10am at the Tawau police headquarters narcotic department.
Prosecuting officer ASP Nur Intan Jamrin prosecuted the case.
At another Magistrate’s Court, magistrate Feranshah Farene sentenced two local men to five years’ jail and one stroke of the cane each for drug abuse.
She also ordered the two accused to be placed under two years police observation upon their release.
Accused, Zul Kifli bin Narun, 24, was detained on August 21, at about 11.30am and the other accused, Al Habib bin Sangalano, 31, was detained on September 7, at about 3.05pm. Both tested positive for metamphetamine abuse during screening.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Rahaman Burijin prosecuted both the cases.
