PH component parties hail Rozman’s decision to quit Umno
LABUAN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties here hailed Labuan Umno member of parliament Datuk Rozman Isli’s exit from Umno and entry into Parti Warisan Sabah, describing it as a timely decision.
Labuan Amanah coordinator Datuk Seri Amir Hussien said Rozman’s move to Warisan was a recognition to Pakatan Harapan’s struggles for the people and the nation.
“The more leaders from Barisan Nasional (BN) join Pakatan Harapan, the better, as this is a positive sign and recognition to the government,” he said to reporters after witnessing the handing over of Warisan membership form from Rozman to the party secretary-general Loretto Padua here yesterday.
Amir said Rozman’s experience and knowledge as the two-term MP could help add value to PH’s efforts in bringing development to Labuan.
“We will be working together and with Labuan Amanah leaders’ close rapport with federal government leaders, we will do our level best to help reactivate Labuan’s economic activities with our economic strategic plans as per discussed with the Federal Territories Ministry recently,” he said.
PKR Labuan deputy chief Adnan Mohd Khatim said all the component parties including Warisan as PH partner would strengthen relationship for the betterment of Labuan’s economy.
Warisan Labuan coordinator chief Salim Abdul Rahman said the division foresaw no obstacles of working together with the former Labuan Umno chief.
“We welcome him joining our party, and we feel he could help strengthen the party here, and we will meet him on various people’s issues soon,” he said.
Labuan DAP pro tem secretary Jeremy Wong said the former’s entry created another ‘interesting’ political event on the island.
“After so many years, we finally witness today he is losing faith of Barisan Nasional (BN) and left his party. Generally, I think his entry to Warisan is well accepted by the people here, and we will be working together in the spirit of Pakatan Harapan,” he said.
Labuan Bersatu pro tem chief Asroh Sukardi said the MP joining Warisan was unexpected, but the close cooperation is certainly rendered to him as MP.
“Rozman has made a wide decision, leaving Umno and join Warisan, and this is for the continuity of socio-economic development in Labuan,” he said.
