Work harder to boost fighting spirit, Hajiji tells Umno Youth

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno Youth must work harder to boost its fighting spirit and strength in continuing the party’s struggles, said State Umno Liaison Chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.

He said that as frontliner­s for the party, the Umno Youth should not be afraid or dispirited when facing pressures and challenges.

“Umno Youth and all party members in general must be durable in facing pressure and challenges because Umno is now an opposition party. PETALING JAYA: A Malaysian man was yesterday detained at the Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal Internatio­nal Airport for being in possession of seven gold bars worth about RM1.74 million.

The man, who was identified as Chan Gee Keong, 47, arrived in Dhaka aboard a Malindo Air flight that left from Kuala Lumpur at 10am, reported Bangladesh­i news portal bdnews24.com.

Dhaka Customs House Deputy Commission­er Othello Chowdhury said they had received a tip about the gold bars and searched Chan after he passed through immigratio­n.

“A jacket was found under his undershirt. Seven gold bars were wrapped in carbon paper and covered in yellow tape inside the jacket,” he was quoted as saying.

According to Chowdhury, each bar weighed one kg and altogether the gold bars were worth about Tk 35 million (RM1.74 million).

Chan was reported to be in the custody of the airport police and that a case will be filed against him under the Bangladesh Customs Act and Special Powers Act.

“Umno Youth must work harder so to boost the fighting spirit among party members and so Umno will continue to be stronger and stable,” he stressed.

Hajiji said this when meeting with Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Umnk divisional youth chiefs at the Sabah Umno building here yesterday.

Earlier, Hajiji received a courtesy call by Dr Asyraf at his office. Dr Asyraf was in Sabah to attend the Umno Youth’s Semarak Semangat Bangkit Kembali programme at five Umno divisions.

Hajiji also reminded the Youth leaders to continue with works to get closer with the people at grassroots level.

“In providing services to the people, we need to be hardworkin­g and be with them. Treat the people courteousl­y regardless of their race, religion and political belief.

“If we serve with sincerity and honesty and not for personal interest, the people will see it and assess what we have done for them,” he stressed.

Praising the Umno Youth leadership for their strong will in continuing the party struggles, Hajiji also stressed that Sabah Umno is still strong and have members loyal to the party.
