RM230,000 drugs seized at shopping centre
MELAKA: The Melaka police detained two individuals and seized various types of drugs, worth RM234,980, in a raid at a shopping centre here last Saturday.
Melaka police chief Datuk Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said the suspects, a man and a woman, aged 40 and 38, were arrested at the third floor of shopping centre's car park at about 4.30 am.
He said following a search, police found certain amount of syabu in three perfume bottles in the woman's handbag.
The woman is from Kuantan, Pahang, he said, adding that following investigation, the suspects led the police to an apartment unit at the shopping centre, where they found various types of drugs.
They included 8,800 pills, believed to be ecstasy, eramin 5 (1,200 pills), syabu (210.2gm), heroin (115gm) and ketamine (45.3gm), he told a media conference here yesterday.
Raja Shahrom said the police also confiscated, among others, jewellery, cash and two vehicles, a Toyota Estima and a Toyota Hilux, all worth RM247,285.
On the male suspect, Raja Shahrom said the man, from Johor, had seven previous and both the suspects tested positive for Methamphetamine.
They are in remand for seven days since Sunday for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In another development, Raja Shahrom said the police had received a report from Melaka Industrial, Trade and Investment Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen, claiming that he had been defamed by a news portal in its report which alleged that he was involved in corruption in connection with an investment project.
