Lahad Datu helps Indonesian quake, tsunami victims
LAHAD DATU: The willingness of the people in this district to share the burden of the earthquake and tsunami victims in Palu, Donggala Indonesia by raising funds was described as a noble effort.
Patron of Persatuan Komuniti Bugis Sabah (PKBS), Datuk Osman Jamal, said this proved that the people here were concerned about humanitarian issues.
Osman said such effort should be continued in order to help more people in need.
“The effort undertaken by PKBS in raising funds for the victims certainly could assist the victims who were in critical condition and face difficulties to continue their live,” he said at the closing ceremony of Palu earthquake and tsunami contribution which collected RM52,687.52 on Sunday.
Osman, who is also the Balung assemblyman, said the involvement of PKBS in such noble efforts and previously in Tanduo intrusion incident should not stop here.
He added that the efforts were also in line with the government’s recommendation to all nongovernment organisations, associations and others to get involved in charity to help others.
Meanwhile, Lahad Datu PKBS chairman Yusuf Nanong said the effort was successful as the people were concerned and due to the involvement of all parties.
Yusuf said after the closing ceremony, there would be no more fund raising and PKBS would not be responsible for whatever activity afterwards.
He also hoped that such humanitarian aid would not only appear when a disaster occurred but people should continue to help people in need.
