Rulers briefed on national defence, security
KUALA LUMPUR: The 250th meeting of the Conference of Rulers yesterday was presented with the latest briefings on national defence and security by Malaysian Armed Forces chief Gen Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, respectively.
The Keeper of the Rulers' Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad in a statement said the meeting also touched on several appointments including the appointment of the Chairman of the Election Commission as well as the appointments of the chairman and members of the Education Service Commission (SPP).
Appointments of a Special Court Judge and Higher Courts' Judges and matters pertaining to the Islamic religion were also discussed at the meeting held at Istana Negara, he said.
"The Conference of Rulers, at the Pre-Council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, was also informed by Deputy Prime Minister and Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on the government's proposal to raise the minimum age limit of marriage in the relevant legislation in Malaysia, "he said.
The one-day meeting was chaired by the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail and attended by all the Malay Rulers except the sultans of Pahang, Johor, Kedah and Kelantan.
Pahang was represented by the Regent, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah; Johor, by the Tunku Temenggong, Tunku Idris Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim; Kedah, by the Raja Muda, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin; and Kelantan, by the Regent, Tengku Dr Muhammad Fa-iz Petra.
The meeting was also attended by Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang, Melaka, Sabah and Sarawak.
