-

KUANTAN: A factory worker lost RM5,000 in an online used car deal which went awry.

Pahang Commercial CID chief Supt Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said the victim, 25, alleged he lost RM5,000 as deposit for a Proton Satria GTi via an online site.

"The victim alleged he got to know the car and agreed to purchase at a price of RM8,000 via internet on Sunday and began to discuss with a male suspect by phone.”

"The victim made three payments before being told to go to a location to take the car and hand over the last payment of RM3,000,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Mohd Wazir added that the victim however found he had been duped when the seller did not appear and he proceeded to make a report at Kuantan police headquarters here on Tuesday.

In another case, Mohd Wazir said a 35-year-old soldier lost RM8,000 after he revealed his banking details to a ‘police officer' purportedly from Bukit Aman.

He said the victim disclosed his banking secrets in a panic when told his name was involved in a drug and money laundering case worth RM2.3 million.

"The victim alleged he was contacted by a female suspect who masqueraded as a police inspector from Bukit Aman on Tuesday while he was working.

"He was told to transfer all his savings into a bank account said to be a protected account and the victim consented to give his account information to the suspect,” he said.
