KOTA KINABALU: Security and safety of the country is always the number one priority of the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), said Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.

To ensure that security of the country is never compromised, efforts will be stepped up to prepare security personnel with the appropriate mentality and equipment so daily tasks by the security forces can be carried out without any setbacks, said Noor Rashid.

“I had a meeting this afternoon with Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah and other senior police officers, and among the topics that were highlighted were ways to enhance security along the east coast of Sabah.

“We know that Sabah’s east coast is huge, spanning about 1,500 kilometers that we need to constantly monitor.

“So we will take every measure needed to ensure that the east coast of Sabah is always protected from unwanted threats such as cross-border criminal activities, smuggling and kidnap-for-ransom activities,¨ he said.

Noor Rashid said this at a press conference after awarding TV3 Sabah and Sarawak bureau chief cum cameraman Mohammed Yazzer Mahmun the ‘Honorary Inspector’ award at the state police headquarters in Kepayan, yesterday.

Also present were Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah and other senior police officers.

When asked to elaborate on the special meeting held, Noor Rashid said among the topics discussed were to analyse ways to improve security and the services of RMP and security forces to the community.

“We want to build up our security personnel with the right mindset and ability so they will always be ready to face any threats be it on land or at sea.

“Other issues were also discussed, namely on logistics, support teams and most importantly our collaboration with the community along the east coast areas,” he said.
