-

KOTA KINABALU: Another 20 Sabah youths from bottom 40 per cent (B40) families in Sabah gain employment through the Malaysian Skill Certificate Food Preparation Level 2 and Diploma in Culinary Arts at Ascot Academy.

This batch continued the success of 100% employment of the previous batches before completion of the programs as graduates were offered job opportunities with Ascot’s industry partners, such as Genting World Resort, Putrajaya Marriot Hotel and Kasih Sayang Resort, in Sabah and the Peninsular Malaysia.

The employment arrangement was done by Ascot Academy one month before their graduation, providing graduates that are equipped with practical knowledge and skills required in real working environment.

“This is the group of the fifth year that Ascot received funding from the State Economic Planning Unit or UPEN under the capacity and capability development program for the Special Group in Sabah for 2017.

“With this kind of program, it provides an opportunity for our youths who come from low income and B40 families to participate in skill programs and be trained to become highly skilled workforce for the hospitality industry especially in the culinary section,” said Culinary Department assistant chief chef Suriyah Dullah at the Ascot Academy Dual Certificate Awards graduation ceremony at Klagan Hotel here yesterday.

“We are grateful to be entrusted by UPEN as any training providers will be given conditions and KPIs to achieve to ensure that the program is well-executed and has a positive impact. Therefore, as the only private skills college with five-star ratings for Food Preparation & Manufacturing from the Department of Skills Development in Sabah, we strive to ensure that our trainees are competent, highly skilled, versatile and meet industrial requirements and criteria before they finish training in Ascot.

“This is proven by the success of today’s trainers, all of whom have already gotten a steady job before completing the training,” she added.

Papar lad Dazsler Nigel Jerry Raphael, 20, who got a job at Putrajaya Marriot Hotel nabbed the Best Student Award this time around.

The certificate presentation ceremony was attended by UPEN representative Cleophas John Gordon, Human Capital Assistant Director), Ulink Ascot Sdn Bhd Board of Directors, industry partner and parents of the graduates.

The certification qualification is accredited by the Department of Skill Development (JPK) from Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia and Diploma by International Accreditation from City & Guilds.

Ascot Academy is accredited by JPK and City & Guilds (UK) specializes in Culinary and Hospitality programs.
