Najib shows up at court complex to give Zahid 'moral support'

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak spent about 30 minutes yesterday at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex and said to reporters that he had come to give “moral support” to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is facing prosecution.

Najib arrived at 9.17 am and entered the complex where Ahmad Zahid has been brought to face charges. He left at 9.50 am.

Other Umno leaders who were at the complex were deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan; vicepresident Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

The Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) arrested Ahmad Zahid at 3.15 pm on Thursday.

Ahmad Zahid faces 45 charges under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFAPUAA).

The Sessions Court allowed him bail of RM2 million.

Meanwhile, several supporters of Ahmad Zahid tried to force themselves through the main gate of the courts complex but Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) policemen on guard thwarted their attempts.

The FRU manned the two gates of the complex.

A police source told Bernama that the security at the courts complex was under control.

The source advised Ahmad Zahid’s supporters to comply with the instructions of the police at the complex.

A red-shirted group led by Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam pacified the supporters and asked them to sit on the road leading to the entrance of the complex. - Bernama
