Club to hold special course with badminton legend Rashid Sidek plus tourneys

KOTA KINABALU: The Hanz Badminton Club (HBC) will be organising the Badminton Coaching Course and Sabah Open Tournament to be held at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas from November 1 to 4.

HBC head coach Azahawari Osman disclosed that the coaching course will be held on November 1 and 2 while the tournament will be on November 2 to 4.

Former world champion Rashid Sidek will be among the sport’s legends who will be present during the coaching course, he revealed.

“Rashid will be conducting a training and practical session on the first day (November 1). He will be giving special tips for singles players while the second day will be for doubles players.

“At the same time, participan­ts will also have a chance to play with the legendary player,” said Azahawari.

The tournament beginning on November 2 will involve participan­ts from Putrajaya, Sarawak, Perak, Penang, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and local Sabahans.

A total of 15 categories will be contested, namely the boys’ under-9, U-10, U-11, U-13 and U-15 singles; girls’ U-11 singles; boys’ U-11 and U-13 doubles; men’s singles open; men’s doubles open; men’s doubles novice; men’s veteran doubles80; women’s veteran doubles-70; mixed doubles; and women’s VIP doubles.

Attractive prizes worth RM10,000 will be up for grabs including cash, medals and vouchers.

The HBC is a private badminton club that was specially formed to scout and train new local talents for state and national representa­tion.

The club also organises developmen­t programmes with national legends of the sport, especially for aspiring individual­s who are 21 and below.
