Four underprivileged pa ents in Sabah have benefited from free medical treatment at Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu as part of the hospital’s corporate giving ini a ve under the ‘Life Renewed’ programme.

KOTA KINABALU: Underprivileged patients can access free medical treatment at Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu as part of the hospital’s corporate giving initiative under the ‘Life Renewed’ programme.

‘Life Renewed’ is a community programme carried out by Parkway Pantai which sponsors medical treatment to needy patients in its home markets of Malaysia and Singapore.

Since it was launched in 2012, ‘Life Renewed’ has enabled more than 1,300 underprivileged patients gain access to the expertise of Parkway Pantai’s network of healthcare professionals and medical facilities.

Four of these patients whose lives have turned around after receiving free medical treatment at Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu shared their stories yesterday.

Lester John, 33, father to threeyear-old Noah who is one of the beneficiaries of ‘Life Renewed’, said: “We were worried that Noah would not be able to lead a normal life. We had almost given up hope, especially after finding out the full cost of treatment. Because of ‘Life Renewed’, Noah now has the chance to live a normal life. As parents, this makes a world of difference to us.”

Another ‘Life Renewed’ beneficiary, Turnina Binti Tubasa, 59 years old, said, “When I heard the news that I had a tumour and could be paralysed for life without immediate medical treatment, I felt that all hope was lost. The turnaround came with ‘Life Renewed’. From almost becoming a paraplegic, I am thankful that I can now walk with some aid and am recovering well.”

In 2018, Parkway Pantai injected fresh funding of RM6 million in support of its ‘Life Renewed’ programme in Malaysia, for utilisation by its local network of 14 Gleneagles and Pantai hospitals.

Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu is one of them. Since the hospital opened in 2015, it has sponsored medical treatment for 22 needy patients through ‘Life Renewed’.

Noel Cheah, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu, said, “We are delighted to see that our ‘Life Renewed’ beneficiaries are doing well after receiving treatment at our hospital. This is our small way of giving back to society by leveraging our medical expertise and facilities.

“At Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu, we are committed to serve the people of Sabah with quality healthcare services. Our aim is to continuously improve and expand on our level of care and clinical outcomes to ensure that patients from all walks of life are able to live fuller lives after walking through our doors.”

The beneficiaries of ‘Life Renewed’ come from disadvantaged backgrounds and have no financial means of accessing quality medical treatment.

Upon referral to Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu, their medical conditions are assessed by our consultants. The patients are also put through a stringent screening process to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria for ‘Life Renewed’, so that the funds go towards helping those who are truly in need.

The ‘Life Renewed’ programme is available at all Parkway Pantai hospitals in Malaysia.
