Motivation cum wildlife talk by ex-students
KOTA KINABALU: A motivation cum wildlife talk organized by the Association of Ex-Students of La Salle and Sacred Heart was held at SRK Sacred Heart, Kota Kinabalu recently.
The programme which was a series of educational sequencer was attended by 302 pupils of Primary 4, 5 and 6.
It was carried out by the alumni's education bureau, headed by Dr Rafiq Idris, a Senior Lecturer at Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy, Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
Dr Senthilvel K.S.S. Nathan (Dr Sen) the Assistant Director of Sabah Wildlife Department was guest speaker.
He jointly conducted the session with his team namely Benjamin Otiu, Ronnie David and Ray Madius of Wildlife Rescue Unit, Sabah Wildlife Department.
The president of the Association of Ex-Students of La Salle and Sacred Heart was also present.
A wildlife exhibition was also held during the event.
During the talk, besides motivating the students on their studies, various wildlife animals in Sabah were presented and explicated by the speakers. One of the important aspects of the talk was on the importance of conservation.
After the talk, question and answer session was held with active participation by the students.
“The objectives of the programme, among others are to motivate pupils on the importance of doing their best in their studies, identifying the professions that they could pursue as well as increase the awareness for wildlife conservation. Indeed, such awareness program is important to build positive attitudes and behaviors to reduce threats to wildlife,” Rafiq said.
“This is part of our efforts in giving back to the society that has been instilled into us as La Sallians,” he said, adding that the school had been very supportive and its Headmaster, Mr Tony's hospitality was awesome.
“The Senior Assistant (penolong kanan) and teachers, Madam Bertha Samuel, Madam Jainin Ulang, Datin Hayati Ahmad and Cikgu Daisy have been very cooperative,” he stated and expressed his hopes that more similar programmes would be carried out in future.
