Dept seizes unregistered products, cosmetics

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor State Health Department has seized 2,669 boxes of non-registered products and unnotified cosmetics worth about RM407,000, in raids at several locations in the state on Tuesday.

State Health director Datuk Dr Khalid Ibrahim said the raids were the results of public tip-offs as well as intelligence from the Selangor State Pharmacy Enforcement Branch.

“We receive public complaints regarding the sale of these products and cosmetics which are suspected to contain scheduled poisons which have been sold online via e-commerce platforms.

“The sellers are also detected using courier services to deliver their goods directly to buyers,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said all the products and cosmetics seized would be investigated under the Sale of Drugs Act 1952 which, if convicted, would be liable to a fine not exceeding RM 25,000 or imprisonment not exceeding three years or both.

He said the ministry advised the public to always be cautious when buying healthcare products and cosmetics sold online as well as ensuring that the products complied with the law.

“The public can also check the validity of product registration numbers or cosmetic notifications by visiting www.npra.moh.gov.my/OR by contacting the National Pharmacy Regulatory Agency at 03-78835400,” he said.
