Sabah phantom voters turn PKR Selangor polls chaotic

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The PKR Selangor polls yesterday turned chaotic following clashes between supporters of candidates coupled with claims of presence of phantom voters.

The election process at the Selayang division became unruly when some individuals believed to be from Sabah, were barred from entering the polling centre at Bandar Country Homes by party members who were suspicious of their presence.

The situation grew more tense when a man in the group claimed that they had been directed to cast their vote at the centre by someone, believed to be a candidate for a position in the central leadership council.

A staff at the polling station who only wanted to be known as Liew alleged that the individuals were phantom voters because on checking their identification cards, their names were not listed as PKR members.

PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin who is vying for a vice-president post when met, expressed concern over security aspects of the election process.

“It is a wonder how people who are nonmembers can still obtain the membership fee receipt and the QR barcode ... this means that our system can be tampered and should be reinforced,” she said.

Meanwhile, PKR incumbent deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali maintained his winning streak in Selangor by securing 4,978 votes against his opponent former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli’s 4,385 votes.

Azmin emerged victorious in the Kuala Langat, Petaling Jaya Utara, Petaling Jaya Selatan and Gombak divisions whilst Rafizi secured the Klang, Selayang and Puchong divisions.
