John Ghani withdraws from contest for Beaufort PKR Division head

KUALA PENYU: The incumbent Beaufort PKR Division head Datuk John OT Ghani has announced his decision not to defend his post in the election for the Beaufort PKR Division head scheduled to be held on Nov 3.

John Ghani made the announceme­nt at the gathering with candidates for Committee Members of the PKR Beaufort Division held at kampung Kepayan Skim Saturday evening.

John Ghani, who is also Central PKR vice-president said in a statement yesterday that the decision was made after taking into considerat­ion several factors and to give priority and special attention to assist the top party leadership to strengthen the party which had recently taken over the national administra­tion.

“I believe the time has come for me to give an opportunit­y to the others especially the leaders who are younger, committed, with integrity and loyal to the party struggles to deliver their services,” he said.

Expressing his support to Abdul Rahman Yakub, one of the candidates contesting the post of PKR Beaufort Division head, John said that in the context of reforms for the party, a new group of leaders who were committed, who had the energy, and loyalty to the party to bring new ideas and efficiency to strengthen the party to face whatever challenges that might arise, was needed.

With the withdrawal of John Ghani from contesting the election for Beaufort PKR Division head, a tough contest was expected between Abdul Rahman, who is the special officer to the Deputy Prime Minister, and Muali Aching, in a straight fight.

In the contest for the Beaufort PKR Deputy Division head, four candidates namely the PKR Kuala Penyu election candidate Dikin Musah, Abd Rashid Yusof, Jamaludin Duakim and Lambert Tangkim will vie for the post.

For the post of Division ViceHead, three candidates namely Tarawih Rukit, Rony Chai and Budingin Golong will be involved in the contest.
