LDP ready to help govt eradicate corrupt practices

KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) fully supports the present government's effort to eradicate corrupt practices.

Its president, Datuk Chin Su Phin, said the Federal Government led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the State Government headed by Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal were coming down hard on corruption.

“There are still a lot of issues plaguing our country, such as the immigration officer at the airport who yelled at China tourists to go back to their home country for not being able to speak in Malay, and a PAS lawmaker who deemed the attire of stewardesses were too revealing and indecent.

“PAS should be more concerned with the issue of corruption, misuse of public funds and power abuse, instead of making a big fuss out of stewardesses' attire,” he said in his address at the 29th LDP Conference and Elections at Kian Kok Middle School here yesterday.

He added that the forceful removal of Chinese signages by the Muar Municipal Council recently was also a sign of power abuse among officers.

Additionally, he said the delay in the renewal of trading licence was a longstanding issue.

At the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Chin said the renewal of trading licence only takes two to three days, but officers in other local district councils deliberately gave applicants a hard time and delayed the process by over one to two months.

“There are also problematic officers in some government agencies or departments.”

He said LDP would be willing to work with and assist the government in bringing these problematic officers to justice, in line with the Prime Minister and Chief Minister's commitment to tackle corruption and power abuse.

“Addressing corruption requires concerted effort from all parties and the people. Like the last election, a change of government would not have been possible if the people were not united. LDP will stand by the people in weeding out corrupt officers.

“If the Warisan-led State Government could ensure a transparent and corruption-free government, we believe they will once again secure the people's mandate to lead for another term to bring prosperity and progress to Sabah,” Chin said.
