Tawau Open Snooker Tourney kicks off with 60 players

TAWAU: The Youth and Sports Ministry yesterday congratula­ted the Tawau Recreation Club (TRC) for successful­ly organising the TRC 6th Tawau Open Snooker Tournament (Datuk Lu Chu Kwong Challenge Trophy) 2018.

Its minister Frankie Phoon congratula­ted the TRC for continuing the tournament and, on behalf of his ministry, acknowledg­ed the TRC for hosting the tournament and bringing in cue sports from various states and towns.

“I believe this is a good platform to encourage the younger generation to engage in sports activities, especially cue sports,” he said in a speech read by his public relation secretary, Ku Nyet Fan, when launching the tournament which will be going on from October 20 to 28.

He also expressed special appreciati­on to Datuk Lu Chu Kwong, who was the main supporter as well as the main sponsor of the tournament

Furthermor­e, Phoon praised the club president, William Cheang, the general committee, organising committee, club members and management and staff for lending a helping hand in making the tournament a success.

He also welcomed players from other towns and wished them the best and to have a good time, pleasant stay and happy snookering.

The tournament attracted 60 snooker players from all over Sabah, including defending champion ex-national player Sheldon Senagang who will be vying for the top prize for the championsh­ip worth RM3,000 and a trophy.
