Education Dept netball team dominate Toh Puan Cup

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Education Department (JPNS) 2 emerged as the champions in the 7th Toh Puan Cup Netball Championsh­ip, which ended at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex multi-purpose hall in Likas near here yesterday.

JPNS 2 proved to be too strong for the Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) when they recorded a 4017 victory in the final.

In the semifinals, JPNS 2 defeated the Malaysia Health Ministry (KKM) 16-6 while MPT edged the Kota Marudu District Education Office (PPD KM) 1610.

KKM would go on to finish third after a 22-9 win over PPD KM in the third place play-off.

The champions received RM1,000 with Challenge Trophy, medals and certificat­es, while the runners-up won RM700, medals and certificat­es.

Third place won RM500, medals and certificat­es and fourth place won RM250 and certificat­es.

The fifth to 10th placing went to the Women and Children Hospital Sabah; Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environmen­t; PPD Tambunan; Sabah Agricultur­e Deparment; JPNS 1; and Peladang, respective­ly.

Meanwhile, JPNS 2 also dominated the individual awards for Top Scorer, which went to Priscella Aletha Koek with 95 points, Best Player (Juvita Soumin), Best Striker (Halleinah Tuanggaak) and Best Defence (Emma Nadia John).

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environmen­t won the Fairplay award while Telekom Malaysia walked away with the Best Attire/Best March Pass award.

Toh Puan Datin Seri Panglima Hajah Norlidah binti Tan Sri Datuk RM Jasni, wife of Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, officiated at the opening of the championsh­ip.

Youth and Sports Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Awang Damit Awang Anak presented the prizes before officially closing the championsh­ip.
