Co-op to facilitate members' forays into Singapore in 2019
JOHOR BAHRU: Koperasi Permodalan Melayu Negeri Johor strives to help ensure smooth entry of its members' products, especially foods, into the Singapore market next year.
Its Chairman, Ahmad Daud said this would be facilitated through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce (DPMS) and the republic's non-governmental organisations in February or March next year.
"The co-op can serve as a vehicle to market goods to Singapore and the entrepreneurs should grab this opportunity as Johor is the gateway (for goods from Malaysia) to the island city state.
“The MoU is still being studied and we (the co-op) have sent our representatives to the republic to meet DPMS officers on the matter. The MoU could help introduce entrepreneurs under the co-op's auspices to the market,” he told reporters after meeting the co-op's entrepreneurs here yesterday.
So far, the co-op has 9,500 registered members, comprising Johor's businessmen, who are divided into five areas, namely north, west, east, central and Johor Bahru.
In another development, Ahmad said the co-op planned to open another ar-Rahnu outlet (Islamic pawnshop) in Bukit Gambir, Muar to bring the total to six after two outlets in Johor Bahru and one each in Kota Tinggi, Kluang and Segamat.
