Maggie Gyllenhaal says The Kindergarten Teacher is ‘impossible to categorise’
MAGGIE Gyllenhaal feels it’s impossible to categorise ‘The Kindergarten Teacher’.
The 40-year-old actress stars as a teacher who becomes obsessed with one of her students in her latest movie and Maggie has admitted she struggles to put the Sara Colangelo-directed film into a specific genre.
She told HeyUGuys: “It was like nothing I’d read before, and it felt impossible to categorise it, which I still feel is very true in the final product.
“I mean, is it a horror movie? Is it a thriller? Is it kind of like a French movie, you know? What is it?
“I think it is new and that is one of the things that compelled me about it.”
Meanwhile, Maggie recently revealed she has no problem with on-screen nudity.
The actress isn’t worried about stripping for a movie role as she thinks certain things can be “expressed best” during nude scenes.
She said: “Here’s the trick: You have to look at a sex scene as an opportunity to express things that can be expressed best when people are making love. Or (expletive). Or whatever.
“But, in fact, I’m a sex worker in ‘The Deuce’, so I have to pretend to (expletive) someone I’ve just met. And then another guy. And another. So what’s expressed in those scenes is somebody who’s doing a transaction. Then it’s fine to act naked, because all these other things are going on in your mind.” — BANG Showbiz
