KINABATANGAN: A 27-yearold plantation worker at Ladang Pintasan here was hacked to death by her husband during a quarrel on Saturday night.

District police chief Superintendent A Sahak Rahmat said in the 8am incident, the victim died at their quarters due to serious injuries, including hack wounds on her face and the back of her head.

A Sahak said the victim’s wrist was almost broken while three of her fingers were chopped off by her unemployed husband.

“Police received information on the incident at 8.45 pm and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the team found the woman lying inside the living room of the quarters with several slash wounds on her body.

“An inspection of the kitchen later found the victim’s fingers which were believed to be severed by her husband’s machete,” he said.

According to A Sahak, during the incident, the neighbours did not hear any noise or arguments from the victim’s house. They only saw the husband carrying a machete outside the house at about 8 pm.

The suspect later fled towards the river pursued by the plantation security guard who failed to catch him.

A Sahak said the motive of the incident was believed to be due to a misunderstanding between the couple when both of them were in the kitchen, as police found a pot of chicken soup and a plate of rice scattered on the floor believed to be thrown during the incident. He added that following the incident, they arrested the man in his 30s to assist in police investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
