Sheldon defends Tawau Open Snooker title with highest break

TAWAU: Defending champion Sheldon Senagang defended his Tawau Recreation Club (TRC) Tawau Open Snooker Tournament (Datuk Lu Chu Kwong Challenge Trophy) title in the final with the highest break of the tournament yesterday.

Sheldon retained his champion crown by beating Nealson Low 5-1 in 2 hours and 20 minutes in the final.

In the first frame of the best of 9 matches, Sheldon scored 810 in 15 minutes with the highest break of 68 points, which was two points ahead of Khor Soon Mun’s 66 points set during the tournament.

In the 2nd frame, Nealson led 23-4 before Sheldon took the lead and wrapped the frame 84-26 with the highest break of 80 points equalling his highest break in 2016.

Nealson managed to take the 3rd frame with a 67-44 score making it 1-2 and Sheldon took the 4th frame with a 48-35 score for 3-1 frames.

Sheldon made a short job of the table in the 5th frame with a 95-2 score making it 4-1 and in the 6th frame clinched the winner scoring the pink ball to make the score 65-47 to retain his champion crown.

The runner-up in the tournament is Nealson Low, semi-finalist Patrick Ng and Kor Soon Mun, quarter-finalist Muhammad Fenddy, Loo Yew Keat, Cassey Lim and Chok Teck Leong.

The champion, runner-up and semi-finalist prizes were given away by Datuk Lu, while the quarter-finalist and highest break prizes were given away by TRC president William Cheang.

Champion received RM3,000 cash plus trophy, runner-up RM1,500 plus trophy, semifinali­st RM750 plus trophy, quarter finalist RM350 plus medal, highest break (minimum 70 points) RM500 plus trophy and highest century break RM1000.

Sheldon who is attached with Sabah Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n (SEDCO) as an executive trainee said he aspires to become a snooker coach in the future and hopes to be back to defend his title.
