641 UiTM graduates receive their scrolls

-

SEPANGGAR: A total of 641 students graduated in yesterday's Universiti Teknologi Mara's (UiTM) 89th Convocation Ceremony Sabah.

UiTM pro-chancellor Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah presented the scrolls to 249 bachelor degree graduates and 392 diploma graduates.

Out of 641 graduates, 28 of them had also received the prestigious Vice Chancellor Award (ANC) and another 14 achieved First-Class Bachelor's degree honours.

The graduates comprised students from six different faculties, namely Management and Business; Hotel and Tourism; Science Administration and Policy Studies; Accounting; Applied Science; and Farming and Agrotechnology.

Meanwhile, Overall Best Graduate Award (Bachelor's degree) recipient Ivy Melodie Michel reminded her fellow graduates that the next task for them was to prove their quality to the outside world.

“The next challenge for us is to prove our quality, not just in the context of our scrolls or transcripts. We must translate our exam results into the working world or our respective fields.

“I am thankful because UiTM has prepared me with knowledge and exposure in entrepreneurship; this knowledge has prepared me to be a young entrepreneur,” she said in her speech.

Also present in the event was UiTM Sabah rector Datuk Dr Abdul Kadir Rosline.

In his speech, Ahmadshah said UiTM has once again proven that it produces highly marketable graduates.

The fact that UiTM was recently ranked fourth in the QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2019 for Malaysia has proven the university's success in generating high calibre graduates.

“This position shows that the graduates produced by this university are at the best and most admirable level.

“It proves that the UiTM graduates are highly anticipated by employers because they are unique in their skill and selfesteem; they are different from the graduates from other higher learning institutions,” he said.

He further disclosed that UiTM is currently ranked 137th in Asia.

“Based on the report published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings, it was revealed that UiTM had increased 21 spots in the table.

“This recognition puts UiTM in the top 28 per cent of the 11,900 universities in the whole of Asia,” he said.

“UiTM is also doing well in the national level as it had recently won the Gold Medal in the 2018 Reader's Digest Trusted Brand 2018 Service Category (Public University),” Ahmadshah added.

“This shows that the UiTM brand has been chosen by the people of Malaysia as one the most trusted universities in the country,” Ahmadshah stressed.
