Socso Labuan continues door-to-door operation
LABUAN: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) will enhance its strict enforcement through door-to-door operation on business premises to check on employers for failure to register and pay employees' Socso contributions.
Its Labuan manager, Soripin Ripol, said the operation was to ensure that employers adhere to the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 and Employees' Social Security (General) Regulations 1971.
He said a number of employers had been compounded and charged in court under Section 95A, Employees' Social Security Act 1969.
“The operation will continue as we believe there are still employers who have not registered with Socso and make contribution for their employees,” he said after the presentation of Socso benefits to six recipients in conjunction with the Socso Day with Community Leaders at his office yesterday.
Speaking at the presentation, Parti Warisan Sabah Labuan chief coordinator Salim Abdul Rahman said to date, some 3,600 employers had registered with the Socso Labuan.
He said it was the responsibility of employers to register with Socso and contribute monthly for their employees so that the latter or family members could file claims for compensation as a result of accidents or deaths.
“We are glad to note Socso has come up with two protection schemes of Invalidity Scheme and Employment Injury Scheme that will give assurance to workers on their social welfare,” Salim said.
He said Socso had also expanded social security protection with the introduction of Social Security Scheme for self-employed and Employment Insurance System.
Salim said Socso was consistently improving social security protection scheme through the coordination of benefits rate payment based on the current economic index, dialysis facility, back-to-work programme and health screening programme, among others.
