More projects can be implemente­d through open tender — Sivarasa

SELANGAU: Rural Developmen­t Deputy Minister Sivarasa Rasiah said if all rural projects were implemente­d through open tender, Sabah and Sarawak can catch up with the states in Peninsular Malaysia in rural developmen­t.

He said that the approach would help the government to save a lot of money thus more developmen­t projects could be carried out.

“The previous government often resorted to direct negotiatio­n in awarding projects which increased the cost of the project materials and that is why the project cost is high.”

He said this at during his visit to Rh Lasit, Hilir Arip, Balingian, Selangau yesterday.

He was there to observe the supply of electricit­y through power grid project that had been implemente­d in that area.

The project which cost cost more than RM3 million benefitted folks at Rh Lasit, Rh Jampi, Rh Chuwat, individual houses, and SK Iban Union.

He also said that the ministry also used the alternativ­e sources of power in the rural areas..

“We know that rural electricit­y supply through power grid is expensive, so we will use other approach to benefit the people in the rural areas,” he pointed out.

Also present at the event was Saratok Member of Parliament and Krian assemblyma­n Ali Biju.
