More projects can be implemented through open tender — Sivarasa
SELANGAU: Rural Development Deputy Minister Sivarasa Rasiah said if all rural projects were implemented through open tender, Sabah and Sarawak can catch up with the states in Peninsular Malaysia in rural development.
He said that the approach would help the government to save a lot of money thus more development projects could be carried out.
“The previous government often resorted to direct negotiation in awarding projects which increased the cost of the project materials and that is why the project cost is high.”
He said this at during his visit to Rh Lasit, Hilir Arip, Balingian, Selangau yesterday.
He was there to observe the supply of electricity through power grid project that had been implemented in that area.
The project which cost cost more than RM3 million benefitted folks at Rh Lasit, Rh Jampi, Rh Chuwat, individual houses, and SK Iban Union.
He also said that the ministry also used the alternative sources of power in the rural areas..
“We know that rural electricity supply through power grid is expensive, so we will use other approach to benefit the people in the rural areas,” he pointed out.
Also present at the event was Saratok Member of Parliament and Krian assemblyman Ali Biju.
