HBC badminton coaching clinic, open tourney a success
KOTA KINABALU: The Hanz Badminton Club (HBC) successfully held their Coaching Clinic and Open Tournament at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas on November 1 to 4.
Programme director cum HBC head coach Azahawari Osman said the Coaching Clinic programme, which was conducted by national legend Rashid Sidek, received an overwhelming response with 187 people from Labuan and Sabah taking part.
Organisers said the Open Tournament which featured 15 categories was ‘world-class’ as it attracted 756 entries from Sabah, Labuan, Putrajaya, Penang, Sarawak, Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia.
“The overwhelming response was truly unexpected… thank you to all the clubs, teams and associations for taking part namely Sabah Badminton Association (SBA), TSBC, AST, ALSI, ACEBRIO, YS Team, Tawau Badminton Academy, Chong BC, Asrof Putatan, CR Shuttler BC, KSC, Happy Fido Keningau and KMBA.
“Thank you also to all the players from Sabah, Brunei, Labuan, Miri Sarawak, Putrajaya, Penang, Singapore LSBC Club, France and Indonesia.
“The programme would not have been successful without the support and cooperation from our corporate partners and sponsors, so thank you very much to all of them too for their support,” Azahawari said in a statement yesterday.
Present to witness the semi-final and final matches was SBA president Janih Bangud. Janih was also on hand to present prizes to the winners of the tournament and lucky draw.
Meanwhile, Azahawari said they would organise another tournament next year.
“Due to the overwhelming response, HBC have decided to organise another tournament in 2019. We will have even more categories and prizes and we will make it even bigger and better than this one.
“For the record, a total of RM20,000 worth of prizes were given away in this tournament,” he said.
Azahawari said they would try to invite more foreign entries next year including from China, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Australia and France.
