Discount card to boost Tuaran tourism

-

KOTA KINABALU: Six tourist attractions in Tuaran district, including Tamparuli, have formed a program called ‘CheckIn Tuaran’.

It is a program card where domestic visitors could enjoy a discounted fee when they visit any of the participating attractions in Tuaran.

When met on Monday at his office, the District Officer of Tuaran, Mohd Sofian Alfian Nair applauded the effort taken by all the tourism operators.

He said that it is timely for them to unite and promote the district as Tuaran has seen a flourishing number of manmade attractions for the past three years.

He hopes to see more tourism related business such as the eateries and the accommodation providers to join the program, as it would boost Tuaran district as a tourist destination town.

Tuaran is just about 45 minutes drive from the capital city of Kota Kinabalu and currently hosts one of the popular five-star beach resorts in Malaysia, the Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort.

Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Assafal P. Alian was briefed on the programme at his office on Tuesday.

Assafal called for more collaboration between tourist service operators to further promote the tourism industry in Sabah.

He said the government is doing its best to promote and to lure international and domestic tourists to Sabah.

The operators should not rely on the government solely and must do their bit to woo the tourists to patronize their attractions, he added.

He also agreed that a tourist information center should be set up in Tuaran town where the public and visitors could get information about places of attractions and activities in Tuaran, Tamparuli and Kiulu.

‘CheckIn Tuaran’ program is not only suitable for domestic tourists but also for the local Sabahans to have a get-together with their family or friends during the weekend and public holidays.

The attractions offer different experience for visitors from culture, recreational leisure to scenic view suitable for all ages, including children.

Alexander Yee of Rumah Terbalik said that they decided to collaborate, as they wanted to give more value to the local and domestic tourists for fewer prices.

He said with the collaboration, he hopes more visitors will visit and spend their time in Tuaran as there are many attractions and activities for short leisure holiday in the district.

The six tourist attractions that participate in CheckIn Tuaran are Rumah Terbalik, Chanteek Borneo Indigenous Museum, Muzium Lotud Borneo, The Traditional Lotud House and Tree House, Taman Buaya and Alap-Alap Cultural Village.

‘CheckIn Tuaran’ is available to the public starting on November 7 at all the six participating attractions.
