Nov 23 decision on trio in gang robbery case

KOTA KINABALU: Three men, who were jointly charged with robbing two youths in Papar, will know their fate on November 23 this year.

Sessions Court judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim put off the ruling date on Muhammad Nurfazrie Ashraf Norman, 25, Mohamed Hazri Jumatli, 33, and Mohd Salizam Salim, 28, who were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

The trio were alleged to have robbed the youths aged 18 and 16, of their belongings such as two sling bags, wallets, Mykads, ATM cards, handphones and RM1,040 in cash.

The alleged offence took place outside a billiard premises in Pekan Lama Papar at 1pm on October 19.

Meanwhile, in another courtroom, 18 foreigners, including a woman, were jailed between four and five months for entering Sabah illegally.

Sessions judge Azreena Aziz imposed the sentence on the foreigners who are from the Philippine­s and Indonesia after they pleaded guilty to separate charges, yesterday.

They were arrested by the police after failing to produce valid travel documents during separate operation in Papar and Kota Belud, recently.

The offence was framed under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigratio­n Act 1959/63, which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to five years or both with whipping, upon conviction.

Nine of the men also received a stroke of the rattan while others were spared, due to their age and gender.

The court also ordered the foreigners to be referred to the Immigratio­n Department for their biometrics data to be recorded before being deported back to their country.
