SKAS celebrate Shito Ryu tourney medal haul, 4th place finish

KOTA KINABALU: The Shotokan Karate Associatio­n of Sabah (SKAS) bagged five gold, two silver and 10 bronze medals at the 5th Shito Ryu Sabah Inter-Dojo Tournament that was held in Putatan near here recently.

The two-day tournament on November 3 and 4 saw around 15 clubs and teams take part, with SKAS concluding in fourth place overall.

Host team Putatan Karate Associatio­n emerged as the overall champion with 11 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze, while Menggatal was second with seven gold, five silver and three bronze. The Ranau District Karatedo Associatio­n placed third with six gold, four silver and six bronze medals.

SKAS president Simon Chia disclosed that he was happy with the team’s overall performanc­e and congratula­ted all the medal winners, including Rudy D who captured the Best Male Veteran award after winning two gold medals.

Meanwhile, Simon said they were preparing for more outings next month and he hoped the SKAS athletes would continue to make their mark in the sport.

“Our next participat­ion would be the Brunei Open which is scheduled on December 1-2. We will also compete in another local tournament towards the end of the year,” he said.
